A bit of background.

Adam Powell was born in Flagstaff, Arizona in October of 1970. He grew up in Arizona and in Wisconsin, where his father is now the chairman of the Classics department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his mother produces art exhibits at the Ehlvejem Museum.

Powell received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English at the University of Arizona, where he studied with Julia Annas and Keith Lehrer.

As an employee at Wired Ventures from 1995 to 1997 he was Production Manager of Wired News, Web 101, Netizen, and Webmonkey, frequently contributing writing to those properties. In 1996 he created Fillet, a popular ezine for lovers of food and wine, also featured on HotWired and the recipient of numerous awards.

During an 18-month stint at Phase Two Strategies, a high-tech public relations firm in San Francisco, Powell was the resident Internet expert, advising and developing for all 16 clients. He continued to write for Webmonkey, penning the 8-part "Adam's Multimedia Tutorial" as well as the seminal "Mp3 Package."

In 1999 he was the Technical Producer for MyHealtheon.com and My.WebMD.com. He launched the music and Internet-minded Greenrocket.com, which has since evolved into a popular and respected online community, the same year.

Powell has designed and produced Web and software interfaces for HotWired, WebMD, Hitachi, LEGO, America Online, Logitech, Reachcast, Greenfield Online, and Logitech. Wired Ventures alone has published over 30 of his articles. Powell has spoken as a panelist for Jupiter Communications, South By Southwest, North by Northwest, the SF Music/Business mixer, Geekapalooza, and Webzine 2000.

In December 1999 he co-founded Angry Coffee, Inc., a Web resource for music fans and musicians, and soon he was pursuing the project full time, hiring 11 HotWired ex-staffers and securing a SOMA San Francisco office space by February. In July 2000 Angry Coffee released Percolator, the world's first web-based peer-to-peer music search engine. Powell is currently the CEO and president of Angry Coffee, Inc.

He's been quoted on the front page of The Wall Street Journal as well as in the pages of The New York Post, The Atlantic Monthly, The Industry Standard, Reason Magazine, The Austin-American Statesman, and the San Francisco Chronicle. The company he co-founded in 2000 has been featured in over 60 publications, including WIRED Magazine, Wired News, C|Net, Slashdot, ZDNet, and ABC Nightly News.

Powell holds a BA in Philosophy and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. As a professional musician, he is in his 12th year. He has recorded and produced numerous albums using digital technology, and gigs regularly with a salsa band.
