Sashimi is one of the simplest and most exquisite foods everyone should eat. It blends the pureness of natural flavors, textures and colors into a meal that always seems exotic and indulgent. The true grace of a master sushi chef is beyond most people but the rudimentary skills of buying and preparing fish are easy enough for just about anyone to learn. All you will need is the following: fish, rice, soy sauce, wasabi (japanese horseradish) and a knife.

Sashimi is eaten with plain white rice. Rice is healthy and filling and you should know how to cook it whether you plan on eating raw fish or not. Use Japanese rice for sashimi, it's sticky and rich, a subtle pleasure in and of itself.

Measure out the dry rice into a pot, you can use any sort of cup to measure. If you only want to make a little bit of rice, use a little pot. Rinse the rice, it's easy if you have a strainer. Wash the rice thoroughly, until the runoff is more or less clear. Drain the rice completely.
